| Argyle have completed the signing of former Rotherham United wing back Mickel Miller on a two-year deal. The 26-year-old is the second player to join the Greens this summer, following the arrival of midfielder Matt Butcher. Mickel scored four times in 30 games in a very successful season for the Millers, as they won promotion to the Sky Bet Championship and claimed the Papa John’s Trophy. The London born wing back started the final at Wembley as Rotherham beat Sky Bet League Two side Sutton United, 4-2 after extra time. A versatile player, who can play at wing back, as a winger or through the middle, Mickel will add competition to those areas of the squad and carries a big threat going forward. Three of Mickel’s four goals last term came in victories, with the fourth coming in a 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic. He began his career at Isthmian League side Carshalton Athletic before moving to Scotland to play for Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academicals. He spent two and a half seasons at Hamilton, scoring 12 goals in 67 appearances before returning south of the border. His move back to England saw Mickel join Rotherham on a free transfer in the summer of 2020. He would go on to spend the second part of that season on loan at Sky Bet League One side, Northampton Town featuring in the Cobblers 2-0 victory over Argyle. On his latest signing, Steven Schumacher said, “I am really pleased to finally announce that Mickel is an Argyle player. “Talks have been on-going since the final day of last season to try and get this deal over the line. “Mickel had a number of other clubs chasing him, but thankfully he has chosen to play his football with Argyle. “He was part of a promotion team last season at Rotherham, so he has experience of competing at the top of Sky Bet League One. “He will bring pace, energy and directness to our left hand side and I am sure the fans will take to him also when they see how hard he works for the team.” While Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip said, “We’re very happy that Mickel has joined us. “He will add further competition for places which is really important to the squad. He will give us more depth and add extra quality. “He also brings experience and knowhow from being at a club that got promoted last season and we are looking for him to add this to us at Argyle.” |

| Well Rotherham did warn us
Plymouth Argyle have gone from having four players in their squad who can fill the left wing-back role to just one after a thigh injury to Mickel Miller.
The 26-year-old summer signing from Rotherham United had been set to make his competitive debut for the Pilgrims in the League One season opener against Barnsley at Home Park.
However, he picked up a thigh injury during training at Harper's Park on Friday and now, according to manager Steven Schumacher, could be out of action for some time.
With Conor Grant still sidelined after a groin operation earlier this summer, and Ryan Law sent on a season-long loan to League Two side Gillingham. Schumacher is left with only Bali Mumba to play at left wing-back.
Mumba, 20, was drafted into the starting line-up against Barnsley after the injury to Miller and produced a man-of-the-match performance as the Pilgrims triumphed 1-0, with Finn Azaz getting the winning goal on the stroke of half-time.
Schumacher said: "Mickel got injured yesterday in training. It doesn't look a good one. He has been for a scan, straight away. It's his thigh.
"I'm gutted for him because he has been brilliant for us pre-season. He has been one of the bright sparks but it looks like he could be out for a considerable amount of weeks, I would say. He's going to see the specialist on Monday.
"It's a blow, we had something similar last year. We had Niall Ennis pull up in the warm up at Rotherham (before a season-opening 2-0 defeat).
"These things happen in football, you are not going to get it plain sailing all the time. That's what you put a squad together for. Bali has come in and played on the left-hand side and was outstanding so I was really pleased with that."
Grant was a regular at left wing-back for Argyle last season but the 27-year-old has not played since having a groin operation earlier this summer. The surgery was successful but Grant is not ready for a return to action yet.
Schumacher said: "His groin problem that he had has completely gone but he's having a few little issues trying to get up to full speed. I don't know exactly how long he's going to be.
"We need to just keep monitoring him and it's important not to push him too soon because now we need him and it makes it worse. We will just stay patient with it."
Law made his debut for Gillingham in a 2-0 defeat away to AFC Wimbledon when he was substituted in the closing stages.
Schumacher said: "We had two left wing-backs and both of them are not available but it won't be forever so we will make do with what we have got for now. We will be fine."
Second-year Argyle scholar Jack Endacott, who played at left wing-back in pre-season, was an unused substitute against Barnsley as he was included in a matchday squad for the first time at senior level.

| so Miller will be out for sometime comes as no shock to anyone considering his injury record and makes it even more strange we allowed Law to go out on a season long loan when Grant still isnt near being fit and now he is down for a period of time. Despite Schumacher being confident to make do its certainly not ideal a
I hope we where smart enough to have had a recall clause in the deal that we could trigger as we are going to need him at this rate as even if Mumba can play LWB that still leaves us short and praying nothing happens to him or Edwards. |

| Only one game in and already injuries starting to pile up. Our lack of depth in the squad is going to ensure we cannot finish any higher than mid-table this season. |

| well its not good news
Plymouth Argyle wing-back Mickel Miller is likely to be out for "a good few months" with a thigh injury according to manager Steven Schumacher.
Miller signed a two-year deal this summer after leaving Rotherham United, but was injured the day before the season-opening win over Barnsley.
The 26-year-old had featured in pre-season for the Pilgrims.
"It doesn't look as though it's a good one, so it could be a longer period than we hoped," Schumacher said.
"He went to see a specialist this week and the specialist says he doesn't think he needs an operation, but it's still going to take conservative management."
Schumacher has ruled out going into the transfer market to bring in cover for Miller, feeling there are enough players already in the squad at Home Park who can get them through his period on the sidelines.
"We've got Conor Grant back, Bali Mumba played out there last week and was outstanding and said he felt really comfortable out there," he told BBC Radio Devon.
"We've also got Jack Endacott as well, a young boy that if we're going to have him here we may as well give him an opportunity.
"Ryan Law's out on loan, which is the best for his development, so we'll make do with what we've got." |
