| It be rumoured that the staff have been asked to go self employed, meaning they won't be earning any wages during the close season.
It maybe our centre of excellence manager (allan evans) is leaving very soon because of this?
Has anyone heard anything on this rumour?

| There will be a massive backlash against Brent if this is true. For the staff's sake I hope it's not. |

Can't see it being true . Been self employed all my life . To be truly self employed certain criteria have to be met . Its just not feasible The Inland Revenue have tightened up on this over the years . |

| It wouldn't suprise me in the least. We're non-league for the long haul - if we survive (unlikely). If brent did do this I'm sure he would be allowed to get away with it.

| I find it hard to believe as well - how could they possibly qualify as self employed?
But, could they be turned into 'seasonal' workers?

| I tend to agree with GG, the criteria for being self employed doesn't suit this agenda although I know dozens upon dozens of companies that still operate under this basis and get away with it. It'll bring down a mighty ton of shyte if it turns out to be true though.

| I've just read the pasoti rumours thread on this. Someone seems to have knowledge of this but surely they have their facts slightly wrong? I know some cricketers only get paid during the English season then venture off to Australia or South Africa to coach or play in the winter, so maybe it could happen?
If it is true I would like to hear a certain trade union reps view on it. It would definitely show if principles have gone out of the window completely. |

| The Club President would be all over this at least privately. I can't believe it would be allowed to happen under his watch. |

I wouldn't take a blind bit of notice of that GG, plenty ignore it and only tonight I was chatting with a self employed guy that broke every single bit of that criteria. I can't see someone as professional as Brent doing it though, it's generally small contractors in construction that try it on or illegal sweatshops. |

| Whilst nothing much shocks me in this life anymore I find this one hard to believe. Given what Brent said previously about the staff and their treatment himself, despite his 5 year wage repayment plan, he would get slaughtered everywhere. Whilst I seldom do demonstrations these days I think this would cause one and I would definately join in. |

| If you work at the same place for the same person all the time, then broadly speaking HMR + C define you as employed and not self employed. Especially if your hours of work and pay don't change.
Can't see this as any more than a silly rumour.
On the other hand, if Brent can make it work then he will save a fortune in PAYE which HMR +C won't like. |

I wish I shared your certainty ... I do know there's been one or two people over the years who've worked for the club as self-employed contractors, but might be viewed as staff from the outside. Let's hope this is the case here, as the latest posts on the thread over there seem to indicate. |
