Two days before his 19th birthday, Argyle defensive prospect Ollie Tomlinson has penned a new deal at Home Park.
The Greens’ Academy graduate, who made his full league debut during the Greens’ Sky Bet League One finale at Gillingham, is the first player to re-commit to the club ahead of the 21/22 campaign.
An attendee of Ivybridge Community College, Ollie spent most of his footballing career working his way up through the age groups in the Argyle Academy.
A regular in the Pilgrims’ Central League and Premier League Cup sides as an apprentice, Ollie made himself known to the Green Army with a late equaliser in the Premier League Cup 1-1 draw against Watford in October 2019.
Rewarded with his first professional deal last summer, Ollie made his first team debut in the Greens’ Papa John’s Trophy defeat to Norwich City at Home Park, before joining Barnstaple Town on loan a few days later.
With non-league football curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the centre-back’s loan was cut short. Through a great deal of patience and impressive training performances, Ollie earned an opportunity to make his league debut off the bench in the Sky Bet League One defeat at promotion-chasing Sunderland at Home Park, before playing the full 90 minutes at MEMS Priestfield Stadium a week later.
Argyle manager Ryan Lowe said: “I’m delighted for Ollie, he’s worked really hard and is fully deserving of an opportunity to continue his development at Argyle.
“He had to be patient for his chance last season but his attitude was first class, and he gave a good account of himself when he got into the team at the end of the season.
“It’s only fair and right that we give him the chance to keep pushing and improving at the club, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in the year ahead.”
