With that money invested well promotion could be a realistic possibility by 2022/23 season. Dont forget we get to do it all again with cooper I can't ever remember a case where we cashed in on a player and replaced them with anyone close to their ability, usually two or three "good squad players at this level" which always keeps us at the level we are. Also most of Jeppers fee will go towards paying the bills for a season and no way we will suddenly start buying million pound strikers. The best chance we have is persuading Jephcott and the squad that we are very committed to building a squad to get promoted to the CCC in the next two seasons. Despite being a miserable bar steward I think by keeping Jeppers and binning half the defence we should be a top six team next year minimum. It's all about belief. I'm very disappointed with Halletts statement that Jeppers is available for £3.5m he should have said something like "Luke Jephcott is going nowhere he is instrumental in our plans of building a squad that can achieve rapid promotion to the next level". Where’s Hallett said that Ears? Sorry Lowe not Hallett but the point still stands. I did think the amount matched Hallets last and final cash injection kind of spookily and think it would be used for that purpose rather than squad investment. "At the height of the speculation in January, Lowe stated that any club looking to take Jephcott off his hands would need to cough up £3.5million." It's not Lowe's decision to make on how much Jephcott is worth, it's the boards. Lowe is talking out of turn.
...and if you want to know Hallett's thoughts on how much Jephcott might go for and when he might be sold? Then join SH in the Zoom rooms on match days, it is discussed quite often. Like, every time he scores... Surely the board would take into account Lowe's professional opinion on the valuation of a player? I'm sure they would. But Lowe's opinion would be just that. But Grovey is right (for once). Jeppers is worth what somebody else will pay for him. The board will decide if they want to accept that price. |

| There's no point talking about Mariner and Gosling. Different times. I hope Jephers stays for another season and helps us go up. Whilst the big shots like the owls and Derby are inthis league. In Lowe and Si we trust. |

| Complete denial by Lowe. "Ryan Lowe has described as ‘a load of bull’ the latest transfer speculation surrounding Plymouth Argyle’s 18-goal top scorer Luke Jephcott." [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

In Lowe and Si we trust. i was thinking about this earlier there is nothing saying jephcott couldn't do both come summertime if he does indeed move on. We could sell him to the highest bidder and have a loan back for a season deal put in. That would also suit bigger clubs as the likelihood is they will see him as a future star and will want him to continue playing regularly if they feel he woud benefit from that other sub appearances till he breaks the mould. |

| A few facts. Historically we have never sold a player for millions and reinvested in similar quality. We have never sold a player for millions and kept them at Argyle. We have never been promoted without players like Jephcott. I don't know why but assume its a hangover from the admin days when everybody became Argyles accountants but Argyle is a Football business and we get money by selling a product which is winning football matches. People pay to watch players like Jephcott scoring goals. As soon as you sell Jephcott people say "same old Argyle" stop attending and we end up with the old die hard 4500 fans.

| It's a quandry.
Argyle will need a new defensive unit next season, so money will be needed that that. But if Jephcott moves on, it'll be a new defence and a goalscorer to buy.
Add on a couple of players moving on when their contracts end and it's either more of the "borrow kids, or short term deals" or there will be a lot of money needed to back the "long term" manager in building a "long term" team.
How many players are actually contracted for next season? Cooper Grant Hardy & Ennis? |
