| 1% is a fookin insult. If the Tories want to ride the Brexit wave they need to get everybody on a meaningful living wage starting at at least £10/hr. |

agreed. but even if they did that this covid era is going to hammer us all tax wise so i cant see many benefitting for the increased minimum wage when taxes are going to rise next year for sure. |

Meaningful living wage means millions more people paying more tax and more importantly spending their extra money. Trickle down from the rich doesn't happen it does from bottom though. |

| Who would have thought that lockdown and gardening could be so dangerous! 'Ministry of Defence bomb disposal units were called out to around 500 more incidents to tackle unexploded World War II bombs last year as a rise in the popularity of gardening and walking during the Covid-19 lockdowns led to more people finding ordnance. Ministry of Defence bomb disposal units were called out to around 500 more incidents to tackle unexploded World War II bombs last year as a rise in the popularity of gardening and walking during the Covid-19 lockdowns led to more people finding ordnance. Figures from the MoD show bomb disposal teams from both the army and navy were called to just over 2,700 incidents across the UK in 2020, around 20 per cent more than in 2019. Hundreds of thousands of bombs were dropped on Britain during World War Two, some of which never exploded. Due to people spending so much time at home during the pandemic, many more of these are being discovered more than 75 years after they were dropped by the Germans. Specialist Military Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) teams are sent to respond to each incident. However, only around 10 a year are large Air Dropped Weapons (ADW). Last weekend, the discovery of a 1,000kg ADW in Exeter resulted in one such military response, with thousands of residents being evacuated from their homes and extensive damage to nearby properties. The bomb was discovered close to the University of Exeter, where development work on new student accommodation had begun. The SC1000, nicknamed after the Luftwaffe’s rotund commander in chief Hermann Göring, after the was blown up on Saturday in a controlled explosion, leaving a crater the size of three double-decker buses. | I'm all for a low minimum wage topped up by benefits, let me explain, low minimum wages McDonalds employee, topped up with in work benefits, those benefits funded by taxpayers, despite the protestations the rich do in fact pay the most of the tax raised so the very rich subsidise those low paid jobs, whack the minimum wage up to £20 an hour, McDonalds raise their prices, the workers no longer need top ups from the taxpayer, I pay more for a burger and fries and everything else goes up in price so low paid workers are still no better off, and the government now has the money previously given to low paid workers to just waste on frivolous projects. |

But you are the one subsidising the price of your burger, not sure I follow the logic? |

| There is always a Tory excuse for not paying a living wage, or paying tax, or supporting public services, or keeping public assets in public ownership. _______________________________________ COYG!

But you are the one subsidising the price of your burger, not sure I follow the logic? It's the super rich paying the most tax that subsidise these jobs, put up the minimum wage and we would all want raises to restore pay differentials and prices would rise leaving nobody better off, better to have in work benefit's mostly paid for by the likes of Richard Branson. |

Couldn't care less about Branson but I object to my tax money being used to subsidise the big four supermarkets to hundreds of millions in profit a year whilst their staff are all on benefits. I've paid the living wage for years and I find it pays, less staff turnover, less sickness and people who want to be at work. |

| Yet another u turn..... 'Previously, Denmark had recommended giving the shot to only those under-65s and said they would wait until more data of the efficacy among the elderly is available. This followed warnings from France and Germany that the impact on the vaccine on older people was uncertain. But now Denmark's health authority has U-turned on the ban following a study which showed positive results across all ages. The study from Scotland found a markedly reduced risk of a serious course of illness from Covid-19 across all age groups following vaccination. The AstraZeneca vaccine - which was developed with Oxford University - was approved for use by EU regulators earlier this year. But countries such as France, Germany and Italy said the vaccine should not be given to the elderly, citing a lack of sufficient data. However, France and other member states have now all U-turned and allowed the vaccine to be given to all elderly citizens. French Health Minister Olivier Véran said this week: "People affected by co-morbidities can be vaccinated with AstraZeneca, including those aged between 65 and 74." France, Italy and Germany have all recorded low uptake of the vaccine. Germany has used around 200,000 out of 1.4m doses of the AstraZeneca jab so far, which is equivalent to around 15 percent of its current supply. | Things getting desperate for the eu? How mutti and josephine must wish they had kept their gobs shut........ 'Brussels hopes to gain an export agreement with the US in a forthcoming transatlantic meeting - despite previously hitting out at the Oxford jab. The meeting's goal is to boost transatlantic collaboration in the fight against coronavirus. US president Joe Biden and EU head Ursula von der Leyen discussed pandemic co-operation on Friday. The European Commission said both sides of the Atlantic have a "strong interest" in working together to increase the supply of vaccines across the world. However, the EU is experiencing shortfalls and now requires Washington to send batches of the crucial ingredients needed to increase European production of the vaccine. This may be politically difficult for Mr Biden as the White House said it intends to meet domestic demand first. A White House official said: "The president's first priority is to make vaccines available for every American. The US and EU have committed to deepening co-operation on pandemic response. "This includes enhancing public health capabilities and information sharing. "We know that in order to beat this pandemic and to turn a corner on economic recovery, we must work with our allies and partners." The AstraZeneca vaccine has previously been slammed by EU chiefs Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron. | I didn't clap them but I don't support the 12.5% rise they are demanding, paid for by the private sector that is about to loose millions of jobs. |

Just a matter of time he will u turn on that but he would be foolish to do it quickly as if he caves in and gives nhs wokers a higer pay rise which wont be what they want then the police will want one and then the firefighters will want another one and so on and so on. |

| There were one or two reports on the radio - over the weekend - regarding a new batch of rule breakers. These new rule breakers are the vaccinated ones and the scientists are urging them to abide by the rules.

| Got my 1st jab on Saturday. Bit of a game booking the appointments but there again there was probably tens of thousands on at the same time. I didn't even have to bung a wedge to a doctor to get my jab notice. _______________________________________ I'm one of the common people so says the wife! Right, I haven't the slightest clue what any last man (or woman) among my greenie chums earn per annum. As for nurses, we "all" admire them greatly, but how does "your income" stack up against their potential yearly income ? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
