now now Pat dont be throwing logic into a debate here its not warranted where harve is concerned.

Alistair is clearly playing to the terminally dimwitted audience who think that a New Zealand-UK comparison gives a true reflection on the pandemic so far.

There is no question things could have been done quicker and should have been done quicker. There’s no question that our ‘lockdowns’ have been completely powderpuff in comparison to most (truly) comparable European countries. The authorities should have clamped down massively on rule breakers, and haven’t.

But, what weighs massively on our mortality rate is the fact that a large portion of British society are entitled selfish ignorant pricks who have either largely ignored the rules from day one, or are of the opinion that nobody is going to impinge on their perceived civil liberties.

Then of course you have the different ways which each country reports deaths. Until everyone reports them using the exact same criteria, then in reality comparisons are largely pointless.

What is quite easy to compare of course is the lockdown rules (and more importantly how they are enforced) in many countries. In my opinion if our rate truly does reflect our numbers compared to Western Europe, then that will be massively influenced by the severity of their lockdowns and the strict enforcement of those rules.

We are too fukcing soft.

Great post, Belgium records a covid death if the patient had a high temp or a cough, no test needed, Germany requires a positive test, for a covid death, there is no world wide standard covid death, our figures are mainly died with covid not died of covid. we could have gone 'all China' everyone to stay indoors, government food and medicine deliveries, armed police and troops on the streets to enforce, thing is Boris is just as liberal as the wettest progressive, he believes in appealing to peoples common sense, reason, fairness when of course many people are selfish and stupid.

However as heartless as it sounds i'd take the extra deaths to not live in a 'tough' country.

As TGWU say we have had 435 extra deaths in the SW in the past year. The South West has at its worst point Covid levels of roughly a third that London and SE has had and we are now way lower than that. What pisses me off is that we will still have to wait six weeks to go for a pint despite our infection levels being lower than anywhere because "tiers don't work". The tiers didn't work because they were advisory and should have been backed up with £10k fines for the selfish cnuts like Harve that ignored them (has anybody else noted that Harve has not once denied this charge).
The argument for not enforcing Covid fines is because we are a liberal society yet you can get fined a grand for dog fouling, littering or probably using the wrong recycling box, you can get fined up to fifty grand for fly tipping ect, ect. but breaking Covid rules and spreading a deadly disease around the country will get you £200 ticket?
The rules haven't been enforced because the powers that be know all the rich twats and their mates are so stressed with lockdown they "absolutely need a break" and have been sneaking down here all the time not just at Christmas.
Whilst the vaccine rollout should be applauded the lockdowns have been a fookin disaster and have cost us thousands down here all in the name of "fairness" something I could live with more easily if say our schools, health service and general roads and infrastructure were dealt with the same fairness when the money is getting handed out.
