| I've just about forgiven him for the hand of God now, bit like an Argie Gazza or Best real genius with a fair share of demons. |

It didn't go down well in the England dressing room after the game with Kenny Sansom being especially vocal after Steve Hodge swapped shirts with him. Even the German Press called the goal a scandal. And then there's this... https://talksport.com/football/559182/argentina-legend-diego-maradona-says-hand-of-god-goal-against-england-revenge-falklands-war/ |

| Maradona didn’t do anything more than modern day footballers do, try and cheat the ref, it’s up to the match officials to sort that, the referee and linesman in that game were abysmal |

| It could always be worse, it's only a world cup game......No way would that goal have been awarded to an England player and what makes it far worse is the gloating that followed it. Great footballer yes, best in the world ever? Not so sure about that. |

Definitely not the greatest player ever. Poor mans Pele in terms of all round football ability and longevity.Brilliant individual goals in 1986 and to his credit he somehow led one of the worst Argie teams ever to a world cup final in 1990 but his peak only lasted for a few years whereas Edson Di Nascimento spanned a 12 year period during which massive changes took place tactically and fitness wise,no comparison really.BTW, wonder why we always go for attacking players in our best ever footballers musings? No logical reason why a goalkeeper, defender or midfielder shoudn't be contenders, interesting point. |

He was voted best player ever by fans narrowly beating Messi yet if you look at the top ten players who have won the most trophies he's not even in it, Giggs, Cruyff and Dalglish are though. I think if he'd stayed off the Coke and Hambugers he well could have achieved the best ever title but he didn't his last international appearances were quite embarrassing. |

| Hugely difficult to judge one player against another from different generations. Pele, Maradona and Messi have played in three totally different footballing era’s.
Pele’s record at Santos and for Brazil (3 World Cup winners medals?) was outstanding. Maradona was a flawed genius and single-handedly led unfashionable Napoli to two titles as well as a World Cup. Messi hasn’t been able to drag Argentina to glory but for me, with the ball at his feet, there hasn’t been a greater talent. |
