| First-year professional Jarvis Cleal is currently on a period of leave from Home Park for personal reasons. The promising youngster, who can play at wing-back or in midfield, signed professional terms at the Theatre of Greens in the summer, having made his competitive debut for Ryan Lowe’s first-team back in March, during the Pilgrims’ 3-0 victory over Macclesfield Town in Sky Bet League Two. Staff at the club, alongside specialist agencies like the PFA, continue to provide their full support to Jarvis, and he remains in regular contact with the coaching staff at Home Park. Jarvis said: “I have needed some time away for my mental health. Saying it has been tough is an understatement, but I am working hard, with help and ongoing support from the club, to get myself back on track and stronger than ever.” First-team manager Ryan Lowe said: “Jarvis is a talented individual with a good attitude and desire to do well, and we look forward to him returning to the group when he is ready. “The players and coaching staff at Argyle are fully behind him, and we will continue to provide support in any way we can.” Argyle Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip, said: “Jarvis knows that he has our full support in what is a challenging time for him. He is a tremendously talented young man, and his wellbeing is paramount – we will continue to support him, both professionally and pastorally, and look forward to his return to training when the time is right.” The club has noted queries from supporters throughout the season, and we are sure that the Green Army will join everyone at Home Park in supporting Jarvis through this challenging time. The club will make no further comment, and we ask that Jarvis’ right to privacy is respected. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

I know these are times we are living in, whereby mental health is the buzz subject. But for me the club have got this wrong. They have seized on a PR opportunity to go to great lengths to publicise someone’s personal issues. Then in the very next breath, they are asking for privacy.
I just feel the lad has been used a bit of a pawn here. I hope he gets his head right and kicks on. |

It would seem if the story has just now broken that Errington has kept his mouth shut a long time. "Where is Cleal?" has been going on since at least August 20th on the farm: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Jimsing (who at last appears to have got something right?) said on 17th of October that Errington was going to ask about Cleal but had not reported on the subject. I suspect this sort of disease is the kiss of death for a footballer? I wish the lad well. |

| I think the club have conducted themselves well, as they mentioned they’ve had several enquiries about the boy so they’ve put it out there and which it would appear Jarvis has approved the release, hope he can sort out his issues |

Cleal's absences had been noticed by fans for a while with no explanation as to where or what happend or even if he even signed his contract or left, those voices would have only gotten louder and theories spread as to what happened. At least now the club has finally answered this and explained why he hasn't been seen in the only way they can without telling all as to why and not respecting jael's wishes. I feel the lad would have known about the clubs statement given how its worded. Hopefully now fans wont keep asking and will simply let the guy get on with his life in the best way he knows how at the moment. If we see him back fantastic but more importantly he needs his life back. |

Have to say I disagree. If it’s a private matter, then it should stay private. If it isn’t then answer the question when it was mooted months ago. Many many personal issues happen with players that the club don’t entertain answering, purely because people ask about it. Obviously hope the lad gets his head straight and kicks on. |

Argyle explained the situation in a statement issued on the official club website on Thursday afternoon, following an approach to them from Plymouth Live. |

| Typical of some on here...
Getting at Errington for asking a simple question. A question that begged to be asked. Talk about ignoring the elephant in the room.

Understand some of the comments against on here but Jarvis did release this statement, so we must assume he’s approved the clubs statement release “Jarvis said: “I have needed some time away for my mental health. Saying it has been tough is an understatement, but I am working hard, with help and ongoing support from the club, to get myself back on track and stronger than ever.” |
