Ryan Lowe is working on a deal to bring another goalkeeper to Plymouth Argyle after a shoulder injury to Luke McCormick.
The Pilgrims' boss aims to have the new recruit available for the Carabao Cup first round tie against Queens Park Rangers at Home Park on Saturday.
McCormick, who re-signed for Argyle in the summer for a third spell at the club, sat out the 2-1 pre-season win against Forest Green Rovers last weekend due to the shoulder problem.
The highly-rated Mike Cooper will start the game against QPR while McCormick has further assessment of his injury, including possibly a painkilling injection.
Lowe said: "Luke is struggling with his shoulder, as I mentioned last week, so we will keep an eye on that.
"We may need to address it with an injection or something, and go from there and see how it is. I will leave that to Dave (Galley, Argyle's head physio)."
Lowe continued: "The top of his shoulder is a little bit painful and he has over stretched it.
"I don't know what the damage is yet. We will get it looked at, we will scan it and then we might have to inject it, which is like a painkiller.
"We will just take our time. There is no rush. We will make sure it is right, as I have always done with injuries.
"Whether it's an injection, a couple more days rest, whatever it is, I will leave that up to the experts in the physio (department).
When asked whether he expected to have a new 'keeper available for the cup tie against QPR, Lowe replied: "Expecting and doing is two different things but we are on with it."
Versatile midfielder or wing-back Joe Edwards also missed out against Forest Green due to a sore ankle but he will be fit to face QPR if selected.
Lowe said: "Joe is fine. He trained Monday, Tuesday, then had a day off and he will continue to train today (Thursday)."
Taken from today weekly media news conference (herald)
plus painkiller injections worsen injuries in the longterm so luke may just want to go with the rehab option regardless of this being his twilight era of his career.

Jack Ruddy has indeed signed for the club on a short term deal till january.
Scottish goalkeeper Jack Ruddy has joined the Pilgrims on a short-term deal.
The 22-year-old former Wolves stopper had been training with Ryan Lowe’s first-team squad ahead of the Greens’ 20/21 campaign.
Beginning his career in the Academy at hometown club Glasgow Rangers, Ruddy emigrated to Spain, where he joined the Real Murcia youth set-up. Having reached the age to turn professional, Jack went on trial with La Liga side Villarreal, but was unable to sign senior terms with any club in Spain because of a change in regulations.
As a result, the Scotland youth international returned to the UK to sign his first pro deal at Bury, where he played alongside Argyle manager Ryan Lowe. Having identified Jack as a player of significant potential, Wolves, then of the Sky Bet Championship, moved to sign the Glaswegian on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
A series of loan moves away from Molineux followed, at Oldham Athletic, Ayr United in Scotland, and FC Jumilla and SS Reyes in Spain, before he moved permanently to Ross County in July 2019.
Upon departing Victoria Park, Ruddy joined CD Leganes B in Spain for the remainder of the 19/20 season.
Jack will wear squad no.26 for the Greens’ 20/21 Sky Bet League One campaign, and is eligible for selection for the Greens' EFL Trophy opener against Norwich City.

If Palmer had come back...we would have lost Michael Cooper....he didn't need another season of inactivity.
From what I've seen of Cooper so far he's looking okay....and with a real healthy kick on him.

Mmm. I've only seen Cooper play once and Matthews three times (not a praper fan innit) but Cooper looked terrible and I was very impressed with Palmer. I honestly thought we'd lose him to a much bigger team and as an Argo fan were all used to that but after we've splashed the cash quite heavily this season it seems like we have a big hole at the back that could have been filled well within budget.

personally i rate Palmer ahead of Cooper going by their abilities now.

Not so strange if you look at how clubs are getting crippled with Covid.

Why would you sign your "mate" if he was no good and was likely to hinder your own career?

may aswell keep him here as having 2 keepers in your squad is always playing risk if one of them gets injured or suspended and mccormick is bound to get another injury at somepoint.

Lowe has signed a very high percentage of players he has played with, is this jobs for mates or does he have no faith in the Club scouting system. Ruddy hasn't played a serious game in 5 months-does he even train with the first team-he's hardly likely to hinder Lowe's career if he's only making up the numbers.
Of course, we could have signed another young keeper that the Club could have helped to develop, but Lowe doesn't seem to believe in doing that, preferring to sign older players who he knows

This is it, Angers. Never mind any footballing questions. Which Local Authority is the recipient of his Council Tax? Surely that’s far and away the most crucial question.

LOL! "Does he even train with the first team"?
Once again.. Why would you sign your "mate" if he was no good and was likely to hinder your own career?
Have you ever considered that these players "mates" may actually 'score' highly within the clubs scouting system rankings?
How good a deal did we get on them (Ruddy etc) ? Do you actually know? I 'll answer that for you. You don't. You know feck all.
You have also given absolutely no consideration to "better the devil you know, than don't". Their character... How someone fits in the dressing room etc?
Your obsession with knocking Lowe with any small thought that enters your mind borders on lunacy.
