| Listening to a scientist on R4 yesterday and he said the rising cases in UK are nothing to worry about as he says it's down to doing more testing, you test more and you find more cases. He also said the Covid deaths were going down which according to the news last night they are. He also said that one place they locked down only had 24 cases and they seem to have mopped them up so maybe things aren't as bad as the BEEB would have us believe? Now if only they can sort the track and fookin trace out we'd have another tool under our belts to use. |

| Recent scientific reports suggests that we’re reaching the “herd” immunity so another potential significant increase in infections and fatalities is unlikely |

thats the big problem. you can read that scientific report and get that information and someone else can go find another scientific report that counters that one and so on and so on. I still firmly believe we will see another lockdown maybe not on the scale of the first but still restrictive come october time when flu's start to go around with the temperatures dropping for the winter. |

He suggests that it could be because most vulnerable people already contracted It in April and March, which was when the virus was allowed to rampage through care homes Unchecked . Whether people have had the virus can catch it again or whether it will spike in the colder weather nobody knows. Obviously a good percentage won’t catch it again by dint of being dead. What is obvious is the governments response to the outbreak has been pathetic. Whether it was delaying lockdown because “wiffle waffle the inalienable right to go to the pub which would have saved 20,000 deaths, the dumping of infected cases back into care homes or the quite shocking lack of PPE, the Uk has the highest rate of excess deaths in Europe. This despite watching the virus take hold in Italy and Spain with the Prime Ministers decision to skip 5 cobra meetings and feck on holiday |

Winter of discontent will take on a vicious new meaning on top of 3.5 million unemployed and likely much higher of course with 5m the top end I'm not sure Starmer or any other leader and their party would have handled it any differently, Harve. Of course, with hindsight they will say we would have done this, that and the other. That's just petty bluster and point scoring. It's what opposition does. It's cheap, like Starmer's aftershave. |

Downing Street knew about this heatwave weeks ago and have done nothing. Shipments of 400,000 pairs of Speedos and 500,000 bikinis, sun cream and Cornettos have reportedly been sent back as unsafe after media claims the shipment was quarantined a month ago and Boris did nothing. Karen from Chavington said, "We just don't know if it's safe to go outside and sunbathe because we can't function or think for ourselves. Boris hasn't told us either way and all my obese kids need ice cream and sweets, the Hubby can't get out to rob anyone so we're out of lager and weed, I blame the government entirely" Meanwhile, anti- heat protesters dressed in thick jumpers chanting "cold lives matter" have marched on London, Big Ben has been removed and a giant Mint Feast put in its place by protesters. Winter of discontent will take on a vicious new meaning on top of 3.5 million unemployed and likely much higher of course with 5m the top end We have been hit twice as hard as any other EU state because of the simple fact that we look to the EU to make all our consumables whilst we concentrate on banks (who will shed staff like extra jumpers) high street sales and hospitality (which are the worst affected industries) and tourism which is seasonal. The EU has been buffered from the shock because they still thing it's important to make things just like the French who actually have been working really hard supplying us with half our electricity. The sad state of affairs you are using as an example of why we should stay in the EU is the very reason many of us voted out in the first place. |

| We are suffering because unlike the EU our schools are still closed leaving many unable to return to work, and according to the left wing teaching unions not likely to reopen in Sept.
Meanwhile the true heroes, the supermarket workers remain at their tills and doing a great job dealing with hundreds of random customers a week unlike the teachers who claim that a class size bubble is too dangerous. |

Week, months ? Went into town last Friday for a few beers. The Barbie was busy, not much social distancing but, then again, everybody was outside. Mostly youngsters down there with a sprinkling of over 30 year olds and all congregating near Jumping Jacks and The Three Crowns. Strange experience going to a pub now. |

| Last week I finally got one of STA Travels "care team" to respond to my refund requests for the £1050 airline ticket to get home after they all went MIA in the outbreak only to hear last night they've just gone bust. Luckily I had more or less written the money off not sure if it's even worth trying Sri Lankan airways? |

The reality is that our infection rates are lower than many of our European friends....largely because our schools didn't fully reopen. There's no doubt that when you have millions of kids in classrooms for hours on end, the UK spread will rise significantly. | Over paid quango runs this country
quote from
Iain Duncan Smith
Public Health England (PHE) and The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).
The former because it has been responsible for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, the latter because it produced the policy for the overseeing of this year’s A-level and GCSE grades.
For PHE, the list of problems with its handling of Covid-19 is a long one.
From poor provision of PPE, and testing problems, to the tracking app that had to be abandoned and over-stated death figures.
In turn, Ofqual has faced fierce criticism of its role in the A-level grades fiasco which resulted in the Government having to junk its algorithm and do an embarrassing U-turn.
The Government now publicly says PHE is not up to the job and wants to replace it — and at the same time criticises Ofqual, blaming it for the exams debacle.
These two spats shine a light on the level of quangocracy in government, with confusion over the chain of command and who should shoulder the blame when it goes wrong.
A look at the list reveals an astonishing number of these bodies. In fact, there are 412 Non-Departmental Public Bodies (NDPB) and executive agencies and public bodies, not to mention the non-ministerial departments.
This myriad of semi-detached bodies have confusing lines of responsibility.
For example, NDPBs are not part of government departments.
In effect independent, they operate at arm’s length from ministers. Yet despite this independence, ministers are meant to be accountable for them and meant to exercise control.
Then there are Executive Agencies, more accountable to ministers, yet ministers should not be involved with their day-to-day operations.
Finally, Non-Ministerial Departments, which have no direct ministerial accountability, are very independent yet have a “sponsor minister” who has responsibility for their policy, even though the minister does not have a say in their operations.
Confusing as that may be, what is not confusing is what happens to salaries once such bodies become semi-detached.
These are astonishing. Some 356 people who work in public-health roles across the country earned in excess of £100,000 in 2018-19. That amounts to a staggering £35.6million.
Twenty-one of them earned more than the Prime Minister. Dr Adrian Mairs, acting director at the Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, earned £311,500 and Public Health England’s London director, Yvonne Doyle, was paid £257,500.
At the top of the salary list sits Mark Thurston, CEO of HS2, whose pay package was £659,416 including a £36,743 performance bonus.
In comparison, the outgoing head of the civil service, Mark Sedwill, with wide responsibilities, earns just over £200,000.
This significant growth in these arm’s- length government bodies and their operation has come in for criticism.
As we witness the breakdown in relationships, that critique still stands.
There are too many semi-detached government bodies exercising significant control over the way we live our lives and at high cost. It is time we reappraised how government should work and lit a bonfire under many on this list. |

They already played god last week in guessing students grades for gcse they cant be allowed to do that again. |
