WE are delighted to announce that we are again joining forces for a Home Park celebration of our servicemen and women.

Argyle’s Armed Services Day – the 11th such event staged by the Pilgrims – takes place on Saturday, February 22, when Cambridge United are the visitors to the Theatre of Greens in Sky Bet League Two action.

As a club that represents a city with a distinguished and long-standing military tradition, we are proud to host Armed Services Day XI, when club and community come together to recognise the important and valued contribution to our lives of the armed forces.

Activities will be staged in and around Home Park from 11am, including Royal Marines abseiling from the Lyndhurst Road Stand roof; an unarmed combat display; and live music from the HMS Drake Volunteer and Plymouth Pipe Bands.

Among the stallholders around Home Park will be Help for Heroes, who are our official charity for Armed Services Day XI. They will be focussing on their 40,000 Strong campaign, representing 40,000 people who have been medically discharged in the last 20 years.

Of the 7,000 veterans living in Plymouth, 2,300 are receiving pensions pertaining to injuries or illnesses attributable to service and are likely to be eligible for support from Help for Heroes, highlighting the importance of local funding.

Other forces-focussed organisations who will be present and correct at Armed Services Day XI include: Street Factory dancers; Royal British Legion; China Fleet Club; Veterans Bike Club; Armed Forces Careers Office; Males Allowed; Improving Lives; Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association; Aggie Weston’s; and event sponsors Babcock.

All will be contributing to a fun-filled celebration of Plymouth’s rich history in connection with the services.

have the rm commandos do their displays like they have done in the past at half time i say.
