| Defender Niall Canavan looks likely to be recalled when Plymouth Argyle play Swindon Town in the Leasing.com Trophy at the County Ground on Tuesday night.
Manager Ryan Lowe has admitted he will ‘freshen things up’ for the second of the Pilgrims three Southern Section group F games.
Lowe has also said ‘there are probably a couple that need a game to go and impress me’ and one of those could be Canavan.
The Pilgrims’ defence continues to give cause for concern so Low is likely to keep assessing what the best permutation is for him in that area of his team.
Canavan has not played for Argyle since they lost 1-0 at Port Vale in League Two on September 14, when he was at fault for the Valiants’ decisive goal.
The 28-year-old did not travel to the following game, the 2-2 draw away to Crawley Town on the Tuesday, due to a slight injury.
Canavan has been an unused substitute for the past three matches, but Lowe might decide to take another look at him against Swindon.
Lowe said: “We will have to see who has got any niggles and see where we are at, but we will go as full strength as we possibly can, whatever we have got available
“I might freshen things up possibly, yeah, because there are probably a couple that need a game to go and impress me.”
Among other changes that Lowe could consider against Swindon are goalkeeper Mike Cooper, right wing-back Joe Riley, plus strikers Klaidi Lolos and Zak Rudden.
Cooper put in an excellent performance in the Pilgrims’ 1-1 draw with Watford in the Premier League Under-23 Cup at Home Park last Thursday.
Now might be a good opportunity to give the 19-year-old some more senior experience when his confidence levels will be high.
The same could also be said for Lolos, who had a very strong finish to the game against Watford.
Riley has played as a substitute in the last two games after recovering from a knee injury so would benefit from a starting appearance.
Midfielder Jose Baxter has returned to training after a calf injury which has ruled him out of the last three matches so he could feature at the County Ground.
On-loan Glasgow Rangers striker Zak Rudden is another possible call-up after coming off the bench to replace Ryan Taylor in the 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe United at Home Park on Saturday.
That was his first game after a short lay-off while the 19-year-old had a knee issue addressed.
Adam Randell, 18, is also in with a shout of playing against Swindon in the midfield holding role.
Danny Mayor rolled an ankle in the second half against Scunthorpe and was taken off as a precaution so he is almost certain not to be risked.
Argyle and Swindon have both played once in the EFL Trophy so far this season.
The Pilgrims drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers at Home Park on September 3 before beating them 5-3 on penalties.
Swindon, meanwhile, lost 3-2 to Chelsea Under-21s at the County Ground in August.
Argyle are also away to Richie Wellens’ Robins on Saturday, when important League Two points will be at stake, so they will be clocking up the miles between Plymouth and Wiltshire this week.
Lowe said: “It ‘s just the way it is. I’m more looking forward to Saturday, to be perfectly honest with you.
“Not that I’m disrespecting the Trophy. I’m looking forward to a good entertaining game.” |

| So it’s £2 cheaper to actually go to the game, than it is to watch an out-of-sync performance/commentary on ifollow. |

| The Pilgrims are in total control of this game but only lead 1-0 despite several excellent chances. The latest has come in the 31st minute with a low shot by Conor Grant from inside the Swindon box blocked by one of the hosts’ defenders and the ball bounced wide for a corner.
The Pilgrims need to turn this pressure into a second goal. |

| Weakened teams and bullshit cup aside , seems that Lowes vision is working even after so many changes,
We've just been unlucky, but thats not what the broken record players and cronic knee jerkers want to hear. |
