Crawley Away 17/9 Empty
PostSubject: Crawley Away 17/9   Crawley Away 17/9 EmptyMon Sep 16, 2019 3:49 pm

Plymouth Argyle’s away game against Crawley Town on Tuesday night could see defender Will Aimson finally make his League Two debut for the club.

The Pilgrims are coming off a 1-0 defeat at Port Vale on Saturday, where their weakness at dealing with crosses into their penalty area was again evident.

The decisive goal was a close range header from Vale defender Nathan Smith in the 76 minute.

Frustrated Argyle manager Ryan Lowe threatened to make changes to his team after that match.

One of those could see Aimson, the 25-year-old summer signing from Bury, get a chance.

He could come into the side for either Niall Canavan or Scott Wootton against Crawley, with Josh Grant likely to retain his place as part of the central defensive trio.

Aimson missed all of pre-season because of a pelvic problem which carried over from last term.

With that injury now behind him, he has been an unused substitute in each of Argyle’s last four league games.

He did make his debut, though, by playing the first 45 minutes of the Leasing.com Trophy group game against Bristol Rovers at Home Park on September 3.

Aimson also had an hour run-out in the 0-0 Central League draw away to MK Dons last Tuesday.

So Lowe must be tempted to give Aimson his first league appearance as he tries to find a winning formula for his side.

Argyle have won only one of their last six league games and dropped from second to 11 position as a result.

Lowe is likely to have a fully-fit squad to select from for the clash at Crawley.

Right wing-back Joe Riley missed out against Port Vale because of a knee injury but Lowe expected him to be available for the midweek trip to West Sussex.

Striker Dom Telford made his return from a hamstring injury as a second half substitute at Vale Park.

He will be pressing for a start against Crawley, with either Ryan Taylor or Byron Moore up front with him.

Joel Grant, also fit again after a hamstring injury, travelled to Port Vale as part of the Argyle squad but did not make the matchday 18.

There is a chance he could be named among the substitutes against Crawley with Lowe seeking more attacking firepower.

Argyle (possible line-up): Alex Palmer; Scott Wootton, Will Aimson, Josh Grant; Joe Edwards, Antoni Sarcevic, Jose Baxter, Danny Mayor, Callum McFadzean; Dom Telford, Byron Moore.

It is all change in defence for Argyle after that 1-0 defeat at Port Vale. Josh Grant retains his place but is set to move from the left side of the defensive trio to the right. Will Aimson gets his first league appearance for the Pilgrims while Gary Sawyer is recalled.

Joe Riley is still absent because of a knee injury and has not travelled to Sussex, so Joe Edwards will continue at right wing-back.

Joel Grant plays his first game since suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-0 home league win against Colchester United on August 10, resuming his partnership up front from that afternoon with Byron Moore.

Scott Wootton and Ryan Taylor drop down to the subs’ bench and there is no Niall Canavan in the squad.

If he lets us down tonight hopefully that's the next change, but let's give him a chance along side two players of similar if not better quality as him.

Rightly so too. Him Sawyer Wootton and Canavan simply aren't good enough to be playing league football. Simple as that.

No. Low cross into the box. Scuffed shot trickled into the corner. Defenders like mannequins.

Goals being shown on SkySportsNews.

Cheers we've got friends round so surreptitiously checking iPad under the watchful glare of the missus. I'll save the actual misery of watching it until tomorrow.
