Ryan Lowe has revealed he has completed his fifth signing as Plymouth Argyle manager.
However, the name of the Pilgrims’ latest recruit is not being announced yet, pending a medical on Monday.
Should all go according to plan, Argyle should have a new player in their squad for the next pre-season game away to Torquay United at Plainmoor on Tuesday.
Plymouth Live understands that Bury pair Callum McFadzean and Byron Moore have both been attracting interest from Lowe, their former boss at the debt-ridden club.
Both played regularly under Lowe last season as Bury won promotion from League Two.
McFadzean, 25, is a versatile defender or midfielder while 30-year-old Moore is an attacking player, either out wide or up front.
Lowe has already signed three players from Bury since his appointment as manager in June.
They are the trio of defender Will Aimson, midfielder Danny Mayor and striker Dom Telford, while Joe Edwards has moved from Walsall.
Lowe confirmed another Argyle incoming when he spoke to the media after the 2-0 pre-season win against Plymouth Parkway at Bolitho Park on Saturday.
He said: “I have signed another player today. That’s all done.
We will look to one or two more departments we need to work on, but we are working on it. We are working every single day.
“By the time I get back from Spain (Argyle’s training camp from July 17-22) I think the squad will potentially be finalised by then.”
Lowe explained that the deal for his latest signing had all been agreed, subject to a medical, but would not say much more than that.
He said: “It’s another exciting player who gives us quality.
“Hopefully, while we are away (in Spain) we can potentially get one more, so in the next 10 days to a fortnight we will definitely have the squad more or less nailed on."
Moore played for Bury in a 1-1 pre-season draw away to Nantwich Town on Saturday.
Other details about the Bury squad were few and far between, though, with all of their starting line-up and substitutes on the official teamsheet listed as ‘Trialist’.
Midfielder Dan Rooney, who was released by Argyle in May, is thought to have featured in part of that game for Bury.
New Bury manager Paul Wilkinson had a brief spell at Truro City at the end of last season.
Rooney spent much of the 2018/19 campaign on loan to Truro so Wilkinson will have come across him then.

Bury were successful at this level last year and Im not against signing "tried and trusted at this level" players. However, especially with the reported windfall of an ex players sell on clause, Id like to see signings that perhaps show a bit more ambition than just getting out of this league. Also hope RL remembers what they say on TV after naming a brand or shop "Players from other clubs are available" and I dont mean freebies from other relegated teams. Time for a "statement" signing, I think. If Rotherham with lower attendances can fork out £500K, I think it's reasonable that Argyle spend half that on getting one or two "quality" players on board

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that just isn't going to happen. Lowe doesn't want to spend his budget in that way.

In 2018 Rotherham's average attendance was 8,500. They turned over a fraction under £10m in that year - more than Argyle. The key to their income was the £4.8m they made from sponsorship, hospitality and advertising. That was more than double their match day receipts. It is not just about attendances.
