Ex-Pilgrims' boss Derek Adams tried to sign the 28-year-old earlier this year.
Plymouth-born striker Joe Mason started his career at Argyle before going on to have spells at Cardiff and Wolves, as well as spending time on loan to Bolton, Burton, Colorado Rapids and Portsmouth
Plymouth-born striker Joe Mason has signed on a free transfer for newly-promoted League One club MK Dons.
The 28-year-old former Argyle player had been without a club since being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of January.
Former Pilgrims’ boss Derek Adams offered a short-term deal to Mason for him to return to his hometown club for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
However, Mason did not take up that offer and has now committed his future to MK Dons, who finished third in League Two last season.
Mason admitted MK Dons’ boss Paul Tisdale, the former Exeter City manager, had been a key factor in his decision.
