- More to the point how on earth did he get the gig in the first place.
Bob himself wasn't offered it, the Trust were. When I was Chair, in order to raise a little bit of profile for the Trust, I approached Radio Devon to ask if one of the Board members could be considered for a co position. They thought this was great and got back to me almost immediately, but they would of course give first priority to ex-players, former pros etc - I was happy with that. They were to let us know if they couldn't fill the slot with an ex pro and would let us know. So the first opportunity came at Boxing Day last year away to Milton Keynes. I was offered the slot but as I'd already made plans with family etc, I recommended Bob as I knew he always goes to every game and would be available, which he was. Seems like the BBC had the same problem Boxing Day just gone as Bob was on again this week against Wimbledon, although I believe he also did the Luton Town game a short while back? So that's the story - it's a Trust gig that I set up as Chair. They must have liked Bob's work so they continue to use him. |
