Princess Yachts pay incentive for Eastern Europeans

Long story short I have been rearranging letting two rooms at my brothers house. Eastern Europeans are always virtually no problem they dont moan they dont worry about sky etc etc a roof a bed and clean house and bobs your uncle.

Two of them come today as the previous Lithuianians had departed earlier this week back home after working at meat factory in Cornwall.

Obviously on lodgings you dont normally have any difficulties no onerous agreements but still always wise to ask just why they want rooms inotherwards have they been booted out elsewhere for some reason

They are working down Princess Yachts earning a bundle but they are desperately short of skilled sparkies chippies and mechanical engineers.
Because of that and I can hardly believe this but to encourage them to come across Princess pay their accomodation for the first SIX months completely !! No pay back strictly gratis.

Their 6 months was up hence they had to move from where they were.

More to the point where the hell will we get the skilled labour from after Brexit. The younger guy was saying you can walk in there tomorrow morning provided you have proof of apprenticeship etc and literally start the next day just like that. Unreal....

It makes you wonder why Princess haven't been diverting some of their millions in profit to training their workforce? Dividends used to be typically 10 percent of profit now it's not uncommon to pay 70 or 80. it's a common story nowadays. Another problem is that apprenticeship money is being wasted by training supermarket workers and baristas instead of trades, we are facing a massive skills shortage in construction and we've known it for years. It's almost as all the past governments are equally feckin useless, shorely not?

Princess Yachts will always have problems recruiting locally, because they are the archetypal boom and bust, hire and fire, peak and trough (you get my drift) company.

When their order books are bustling, they're crying out for labour. But the terms workers come in under means that when things go quiet they are laid off super-quick. Not really the security most locals would choose if they're a skilled worker.

My bro-in-law is one of the luckier ones. He has worked there for over 20 years and with each cull that he's dodged, his position obviously becomes stronger and he's got to the point where he'd be very expensive to make redundant.

It doesn't surprise me they are trying to tap in to the foreign market because when things are busy you can put in rediculous hours if you're that way inclined, which clearly is what a lot of the foreign labour are looking for.

Ain't that the truth. I remember an horrendous statistic I was given a year or two ago down at Plymouth Guildhall by John Macdonnell, he of the reds under the bed, the socialists are coming to get us, they'll bankrupt us, treasonous tribe that he is. And he was quoting not from the Socialist Worker or some made up Murdoch text, but from government statistics. For the first time EVER, that year, the year before last,  TOTAL GROSS INCOME FROM CAPITAL AND SHAREHOLDINGS WAS GREATER IN THE UK THAN INCOME FROM EMPLOYMENT AND SELF EMPLOYMENT. That is incredible and still resonates with me. Just think about that and let it sink in. And it's not getting any better. The age old balance between capital and labour is becoming untenable and big unavoidable problems ahead. #BRENT OUT.

Along with poor weather, shortage of bricks, not enough qualified dentists, Brexit is already in the list of pre-prepared BS excuses for when the inevitable cancellation of crapshack 2 is announced.

Any local no matter how skilled or unskilled they are should swerve PY completely, even if they are desperate.
That's if they value their life and limbs.

Cant imagine they are paying the locals less then the Polish boys in which case its way way above the national average

You can just see Errorington's(sic) back page headlines - " 'Brent' - 'Mayflower refurb scrapped due to rising costs and skill shortage after Brexit' "

And the main reason we need to import skilled labour is instead of addressing the skills shortage we have in the construction industry by training more skilled construction workers we think it's more important to have people going to uni on to train in media studies and surf science. The main reason for this is that builders don't leave college with 40k+ in debt. Most degree holders nowadays don't work in the field that they train in its almost as though this country is run by completely incompetent people.

True, and this is going to come home to roost very soon. And the only solution for bridging the gap in the short-to-medium term will be letting foreign construction workers in. That should go down well with Offended of Deal in the Mail's reader comments section.

You never know, the hit to our construction output might see us become a world leader in innovative off-site and automated construction. I can just see our forward-thinking leadership (both in Whitehall and the construction industry) going for that!

if princess stopped laying off workers they probably could have more skilled workers.

I had a decent 6 months working for them at South Yard,I only left because I thought I was getting into something better which turned out be a load of bollocks.

I don't know what's happened at Princess I have known about a dozen people that used to work there and back in the day you had to know someone to even get a foot in the door. All the managers have gone to Babcock and the fitters, joiners and glassers have all gone elsewhere. They used to look after their staff and pay above average money. One of them now works in a pub and hates it. I think they have gone down the cheap European labour route and it's biting them in the arse now. Let's not forget that Brexit hasn't happened yet and is unlikely to have an impact on European labour for a couple of years yet so I don't know why they are whining about what a problem it is, sounds like more really shite management to me.

When I left school in the mid 1950's....I had the possibility of joining six different companies and start five year apprenticeships in any of them......ok the war had only finished ten years back, but apprenticeships were the way ahead....in the 60's/70's you needed an apprenticeship plus two years of experience on the job as well, to be able to apply for a skilled job.

Under Thatcher it all changed and many firms didn't want to know if you were in a trade union or not, they preferred that you weren't in one....people were coming from the job centre with no engineering background and you were expected to show them what to do....and they got the same hourly rate as a skilled man.
Thatcher had a lot to answer for regarding the disappearing of skilled workers....and Tories wonder why people wanted to dance on her grave when she died.
