BRADFOD FC NEWS

Bradford City ambition satisfied Simon Grayson’s appetite.

A desire to work and the potential of Bradford City ensured Simon Grayson overcame initial reservations about dropping down to League One, he has revealed. The 48-year-old, sacked by Sunderland in October, succeeded Stuart McCall at Valley Parade 12 days ago.

It brought a return to a level where Grayson has prospered in the past, his CV boasting no fewer than four promotions from the third tier.
Nevertheless, after managing four clubs in the Championship, he was initially reluctant to drop down again and even turned down a job, believed to be MK Dons, a few weeks before taking charge of Bradford.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Plymouth Argyle, Grayson said When I first left Sunderland, I was adamant I wanted to stay in the Championship. He still insists he is still a Championship manager despite his reputation as a League One specialist.

Grayson is hoping to mastermind his fifth promotion from the division with the Bantams. He  wants his team to take a leaf out of Plymouth Argyle’s book as the League One season begins to really take shape.
He is set to oversee his second game in charge of the Bantams this weekend with the first a 1-1 draw against Charlton Athletic.
That followed on from a 2-2 home draw with Bury, who had lost their previous six before that, this cost former boss Stuart McCall his job.

But Grayson says the campaign has become a “16-game season” for his side, consisting of 13 league games and three play-off matches.

Bradford injuries

Jake Reeves and Alex Jones are doubts with respective hamstring and groin injuries after missing the draw with Charlton last time out. Nicky Law is also rated 50/50 after missing the Bantam's last two outings with a knee problem.

Match Facts

Bradford have failed to win in their last 7 matches, losing 6 before drawing their last match

Bradford Season Tickets go on sale from Wednesday 7th March.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE NEWS

Not much news coming out of Home Park on the playing side as the player and management has been in Spain.
Oscar Threlkeld travel with the team and we hope he is over his sickness.

Edited
News from the Spanish training was, Oscar took a full part in all of the sessions at the warm weather training camp.

Callum Rose who is on loan until the end of the season at Dorchester, has been told he will not be handed a new deal at Argyle. He has now been on trial with Bolton. He was named on the bench for a Bolton under 23 fixture but came on for Adam Mitchell in the 70th minute. The side were still drawing 0-0 at the time but won it 1 - nil.

Argyle Injuries

Jordan Bentley,Luke McCormick,  Ryan Edwards,  Robbert te Loeke
Hoping the rest of the team return with a clean injury list.

Plymouth have won their last 5 matches

Going to be a toughy. Having got to 50 points about 10 games before most fans thought we would the players can play without fear and with freedom. I feel, at this stage, its very much ''do not lose'' while watching other results. I'm going for a tight game and a draw.

Can't quite understand the comments by Simon Grayson. Having dragged Sunderland down towards relegation he insists he is still a Championship manager? Weird. scratch

Bradford Newspaper review on this match

THE sun is shining brightly on Plymouth Argyle right now.

Only Rotherham can better their current run of five straight wins in League One.

But nobody can match their scorching charge from bottom spot in mid-December to the brink of the play-offs.

And they will face City at Home Park on Saturday suitably refreshed from a warm-weather break on the Costa Del Sol.

Derek Adams and his squad flew back on Thursday afternoon after spending a few days training at the highly-acclaimed Marbella Football Centre.

It is a regular haunt for clubs around Europe – Liverpool had been over there the week before.

Plymouth did the same last February on the way to winning promotion from League Two.

And defender Sonny Bradley, who persuaded chairman James Brent to fund another sunshine trip, is hoping history can repeat itself this season.

Bradley’s header at Oxford clinched Plymouth’s fifth victory on the bounce before they left. That win took them above City on goal difference and within a point of the top six.

Bradley said: “We aren’t going to down tools. We have got no time for that now.
“We can see something special happening here and we are not going to throw it away.
“With 12 games to go, it’s time to press on and get a play-off place.

“We have played Blackburn, Shrewsbury and Oxford, all difficult (games), but when you have got the momentum and confidence we have, it’s going to be very hard to beat us.”

Plymouth’s record over the past two months has been incredible. Since being knocked out of the FA Cup at Valley Parade, they have won ten out of 14 league games and lost only once.

And it has not been a case of star man Graham Carey single-handedly winning matches.
The 11 goals they have scored in the current winning burst have come from eight different scorers.

Adams, who has won 65 times since joining Argyle in the summer of 2015, expects to have defender Oscar Threlkeld back in his squad after missing the Oxford game through illness.

I am going for 2 - nil to Argyle and a crowd 11,000, Blocks 1 to 14 just over 400 seats left, family block 18 sold out

Average attendance down

Argyle’s average attendance for league games this season currently stands at 9,646, which compares with 9,652 for the 2016/17 League Two promotion campaign.

One Game, One Community, One Argyle

The day will include a football tournament, staged at Goals during the morning and early afternoon and hosted by Argyle Community Trust, where we will welcome teams including: Devon Lions; Plymouth Community Homes; Devon & Cornwall Police’s Diversity Unit; and Hope FC. Argyle will also be represented by the Trust's own Ability Counts and It’s a Goal men’s mental health teams.

Later, at the Bradford game, there will be a half-time parade by all teams and organisations, as well as a presentation of the winners’ trophy on the pitch. Please show your appreciation for the teams, some of whom have overcome adversity in order to be able to play the game they love.

Derek is in the enviable position as a manager, that the team is effectively picking itself due to form and individual performances. On form Argo could be expected to get a win, particularly with a big crowd behind them - but football doesn't always go like that.
Fingers crossed for both Argyle and England today.
COYG cheers

Argyle will have too much up front for Bradford ( can't believe I'm saying that in this era of Adams Very Happy  ), so as long as Bradley and co don't give the ball away in front of goal, the result is inevitable. Excellent chance to give one of two close competitors a boot into touch.... byeeeee. The usual win win situation still applies no matter what the result, so I'm a happy bunny.
The Two Unfortunates are back in town, well, one of them anyway, so will be an interesting post match ahem, cough, discussion, given he hasn't quite yet grasped the inner peace of the win win philosophy. bounce

Argyle have nothing to fear about going to the championship, the club will not lose ten million and would probably make a profit.
Forget the scare stories from knobber ,xthrobber etc etc, Argyle can compete like they have done in the past, it was greedy fvckwits that crashed the Club last time around not the supporters.

Not a chance we could compete in the Championship next season without a significant cash injection, and our bloke ain’t got it, on the other hand it may persuade him to sell !

While on the subject of money, I took a close look at Wyke today, who cost 250k and compared him to Taylor who cost nothing, I know who I’d sooner have.

Scrappy old game. Not much in it but we generally shaded it.

Scored a scruffy goal.

Vyner was superb.

"We didn't play well" - Bradford fan in The Brit afterwards. But they all say that don't that they?

I think we have become not just a genuinely horrible team to play against but one with some threat that the other end and if we score first...

Buggered if I know how but his team just might bloody do it.

Of course Aryle can compete in the second division provided the tv money goes to the playing budget. I have no idea where that sort of negativety comes from. You're repeating Brent's nonsense, and there's zero chance of him selling while he's trying to close his HHP property deals.
Only one thing might affect Argyle's ability next year in the championship and is the elephant that no one wants to talk about.... the loan notes to the previous owners that are related to tv money if Argyle get into the championship. No one talks about it, even on here. Weird collective amnesia. Someone has done a good job on the information front.

Bit like Dack of Blackburn who will cost them £1 million in the end. Foxy vs Blackburn, with his zimmer, had Dack in his back pocket. Many fans talk about ''spending money'' but, today, I was sat next to Harley Lawer, and we had a chat about ''spending money'' and he agreed that post-Bosman it is not required. Carey, Taylor  etc etc!!

So, can we get to the play-offs? Of course we can .... and win them!!
Took 2 hours to get home but all the way back I was smiling.

So why would Burton Albion be permanently struggling in the championship if money doesn't matter? Of course it matters, obviously not in terms of transfer fees but certainly in wage packets-Argyle will find that out once more should they get back to the championship. Harley wasn't a bad journalist but never quite forgave him for slagging off Waiters post Mariner-if he had done his job properly he would have slanted his criticisms towards the directors box where Argyles progress has always faltered. Played cricket against him once and caused him to retire hurt by nipping a nice little break back off the pitch and catching him on the inner thigh-no padding there, lovely delivery.

Anyway I didn't go yesterday for a variety of reasons but the amazing run continues-hats off to DA and the squad, never known anything quite like it.

Not sure if you’ve been on the sauce or not, have you not noticed the million’s being spent on players which didn’t occur when we were last in the Championship but is now the norm, the quantity of clubs in the red but financed by foreign owners, for once Brent has it right, the club would require a significant injection of cash which he cannot or won’t do, the club would need to be sold, but whose out there ?
