| Plymouth Raiders sack three players after they fail drugs tests
Plymouth Raiders have released three players form their roster after they tested positive for taking banned substances.
The club said they have a zero tolerance policy towards recreational or performance enhancing drugs and have been left with no option but to terminate the contracts of Neil Watson, Jawad Adekoya and Kinu Rochford.
The club said that as part of the club takeover in the summer, by Richard Mollard and Ross Mackenzie from former owner Bob Widdecombe, a detailed review of all club policies, including those relating to anti-doping, had been implemented.
A number of proactive procedures to ensure players were fully briefed on the use of banned substances, both performance enhancing, and recreational, were drawn up and as part of this procedure change, the club implemented proactive testing, with 30 days’ notice provided, as a further deterrent. |

| They were briefed on the club drugs policy, therefore they knew the rules and chose to ignore them, so the club acted correctly imo. Not sure that Rock Stars, authors or poets etc have performance enhancing drug policies |

| Well they certainly don’t compete with each other Mano-a-Mano. Which is really the whole point of performance enhancing drugs. |

| Graiser. if you read the press on it, this is a recreational drug thing, not performance enhancing. A good job Somerset Cricket Club didn't test Botham, Richards and Garner. Can't think why. While laws change for the better elsewhere, puritans are everywhere in the sport entertainment industry, just before they pop over to the pub to get blotto. Employers have legal recourse apparently over their employees. and that isn't necessarily a bad thing if it affects health and safety. Are there any similar effective means for the employee to just as easily get rid of the employer for having an illegal drug habit ? Just asking like. #institutionalisedonewaystreet |

Recreational/Performance enhancing, it matters not, they were contracted players who were fully aware of the clubs rules.

| Just been up to Totnes to see John Cooper Clarke. Now there's a man with a worthwhile take and experience on "drugs". Who needs a drugs czar ? Not a puritan in sight. Oooo how offended they would have been. |

| John Cooper Clark. Legend. Saw him when I was at College he started his gig with the observation that most of his audience are the sort that would get out of the bath to take a piss. Very funny and very sharp guy. Will Self is good to read on drugs and I've just finished reading Burroughs Naked Lunch pretty disturbing but a real insight into the world of the junkie. As with most subjects trying to discuss this subject with someone holding views they have been sold by the Red tops is a thankless task.

First time back to watch Botham, Somerset v Worcester and Botham caught & bowls Roebuck ( less said about him the better ). Very harrowing and tragic times were those for Somerset CCC. In spite of Roebucks later indiscretions [shall we say],I did have some sympathy with him and the other people who sacked Richards and Garner. The way Botham carries on now would suggest that Somerset were still a trophy winning force in the seasons before the axe fell but that was far from the case. The club was going into steep decline, finishing bottom of the County championship for two years in a row and getting nowhere in the one day competitions, a situation which in all truth the fab 3 did very little to reverse. For sure it could have been handled much better and the decline was by no means entirely due to the inadequacies of Richards, Garner and Botham but from a cricketing point of view changes had to be made, enjoyable though those players were to watch. |

I can't believe I have just read that statement! How totally irresponsible, pathetic and childish. |

First time back to watch Botham, Somerset v Worcester and Botham caught & bowls Roebuck ( less said about him the better ). We had some great minibus trips there those days. Stopping off at Chudleigh on the way home, because we'd obviously not drunk enough beer all day! I have promised James that i'll take him to the cricket one day. We'll have to arrange something this summer Alan! |

| My outings to Somerset CCC were the annual decamp to the lovely setting down by Pultney Bridge slap bang in the middle of Bath for the early Summer festival. Sigh.. Summer cricket doesn't get better than that. |

I have promised James that i'll take him to the cricket one day. We'll have to arrange something this summer Alan! Same here. Achievements included drinking the bar nearly dry at the ground-only bitter remaining from a choice of bitter, lager and scrump-,nearly getting arrested for riding a supermarket trolley through Tescos in Okehampton, one of our entourage leaving a large boot print and dent on the passenger door of a car he thought had got too close in the car park and another falling off the temporary stand scaffolding and ripping his mates jacket pocket off trying to hold on. We got to Taunton at about 1100 for one match and went to the Turks Head pub near the ground [it's gone now]-they had had an all night lock in the pub and there were about 25 of them in there as pissed as parrots but still drinking, twas some establishment.Happy days. |

Summer cricket doesn't get better than that. Bath was nice with a completely different aura to Taunton, not sure if they hold the festival now-they used to go to a lot of outgrounds like Weston Super Mare, Glastonbury, Yeovil, even a match or two at Torquay. Saw Ramprakash hook Jason Kerr out of the ground and through a car window at Bath, sadly unfulfilled talent in test cricket. |

| Watching Nigel Felton drop a catch right on the boundary in front of hundreds of pissed up scrumpy heads was a a funny one. Dont think he ever recovered. |
