| The Cherry Tree, on Ham Drive, has been taken over by the sports bar chain Craft Union. but that means axing its impressive roast dinners, along with the rest of its food.
The company - part of the Ei group formerly known as Enterprise Inns - also runs the newly-revamped King's Head sports bar on Bretonside.
A post on the Cherry Tree Facebook page reads: “As of 15th November 2017 we will be taken over by a new operator. |

| Enterprise are a FOOKIN nightmare they closed my local pub for 18 months after the landlady had cancer and couldn't keep up the lease payments after spending months in hospital, proper classy. |

| If it’s the same company that has the Kings then it means super low beer prices. |

| Yeah, Enterprise are scumbags, but so are all the PubCos. Cheap beer is good, as long as it's decent beer. I'm past the days of trying to get as shitfaced as I possibly can, as cheaply and quickly as I possibly can. |

| What about if it’s cheap good beer in abundance but with limited time available? |

| Tell me where this mythical bar is, and I'll go!
TBH I just had an attitude shift in my mid-20s, when I figured out that the pleasure (for me) is in getting drunk, not being drunk. Not that I haven't lost track of where the tipping point is a fair few times since then. The winter beer festival at St James' Park a couple of years ago springs to mind... |

| Half of the attraction for me in a match day pub is having some food to soak up the lunchtime alcohol. I know the Cherry Tree was never a gastro pub but you could get a decent roast or an ok burger and chips, just selling beer with no food to hordes of people before a football match is bordering on the irresponsible. I've used the Cherry Tree off and on since the age of about sixteen, I will be swerving it from now on unless for a proper swifty pre match. |
