What's the difference? Young black men a bit stabby, football fans a bit thuggy? Probably the same percentage of the demographic engage in thuggy or stabby behaviour, I'll let that hang there.
The differences are pretty obvious, if you want to see them. Away from football, a football fan is just another random, free of any negative or lazy stereotypes that anyone might entertain about them. Bit trickier to step away from being black. That, and the fact that footy fans generally haven't been denied access to jobs, housing, education or civil liberties down through the years in any way at all, let alone on a widespread, systemic and institutional basis.
Although I would argue that half-and-half scarfers probably should be.
Yes I do get the difference Mike what I don't get is the barely veiled snobbery directed towards fans by fans.
Loathing racism and the proponents of it is hardly snobbery.

Typical Gaurdinista bullcrap Hugh, you hate racists but are quite happy to condemn a whole section of football fans with as Mike above says "lazy stereotypes." If you wish to put your liberal views on a pedestal it would be wise to apply the same criteria to all groups regardless of race/colour. It's a class thing simples.

If you are going to complain about "Lazy Stereotypes", it would be wise not to lazily stereotype folk yourself.

Football fans have been fair game for sticking the boot into since Hillsborough, I'm used to all the rugger buggers doing it but at least their ignorance about football usually stems from never attending a game but the seems to be an increasing number of football fans keen to generalise about football fans also. However it would seem nowadays that if you don't want to sit mutely with the odd round of polite applause you are labelled a thug I just don't get it especially when it comes from a minority champion such as yourself.

How about if you're someone that likes to drink, shout and swear at the football but somehow manages to do it without insulting anyone over gender, sexuality or race

Oh my bad I didn't realise that you were specifically referencing only the racist fans sounded more like rash generalisation to me, you are an example to us all.

Haven't you just used terms such "Liberal" "Guardianista" and "class based". If that's not "rash generalistion" then I don't what is.
Apology accepted though.
