| Spot on there, Andy. A bunch of mates (internet and REAL) are planning to get together for a drink before the match. As Andy says, given some of the tweets, PMs and phone calls floating around, why would we/they want to organise it in public? And - an added bonus - Cobi won't know where we are |

For various reasons which may or may not be obvious, it's best we don't post the venue for our next Freak Meet on here.
You posted the last venue on here, were there any problems? Not at the time, Zee, no. But a couple of things have happened since. What a world we live in ! Watch out for when Zee is all out of flyers. She may be followed or tickled until she tells ! Yeah I will Fb it, Tweet it, and put it on Pasoti. As if anyone cares where a few people from the internet meet up for a pre match pint!!
Peggy, what has happened since, that has made you feel unsafe about stating what pub you will be in? If it was any sort of threatening behaviour I hope it was reported to the police. If not, I don't see any issue. I have no problem with you wanting to keep it quiet, just wishing to understand the reasoning behind it. Zee, those attended the freak meet are adult enough to make their own decisions, but I did suggest that they keep the location quiet. Last week I spoke to Ian on the phone and he expressed a desire to have a sit down meeting between ATD and him and Chris. You may have been aware that they have been labelling us as freaks and cowards who won't say anything to their faces. I am very keen for this to happen, but I am not travelling 700 miles to meet some old bloke from the internet in a pub. I will arrange it for the next time I am down. However, during the conversation it was apparent that Ian had heard about the previous freak meet in the Cherry Tree and labelled this pub as "our turf". He assured me that there would be no threat of violence at any meeting, though there would be a robust exchange of views. More importantly, I also assured him that he and Chris would be safe and that we welcomed to opportunity to discuss issues in an adult manner. Due to my trusting nature I have taken Ian at his word and I look forward to a pleasant debate. Who joins me from ATD on that day is up to them. I am more then happy to go on my own, but I am sure there are plenty of ATD'ers who would welcome the debate. But when I put my professional head on a number of alarm bells start ringing. It was only a few weeks ago that Ian lost his temper so badly on our first telephone call that I had to tell him to stop swearing and shouting at me or I would hang up. Can he guarantee he won't get that worked up again? What about Chris? I don't know him well enough to know how he would react. And would it just be them? Over the last year I have seen 2 of their hangers on threaten violence against an ATD poster. There are plenty of stories out there in internet land of people getting worked up and being stupid in person. Can either of them guarantee that one of their mates wont do something stupid? Now that all may seem a bit dramatic. This is just the internet and we all support the same club. But do not underestimate the hatred that there is from some on Pasoti towards this site. We (I) will meet up with them for a chat, but it will be on my terms. |

| Spot on Frank. Let me know the when and where and if I can, I will attend.
I'm no freak or coward, but am mindful of my own (and my son's) safety and whilst I consider Both Ian and Chris to not get silly and violent, some of their entourage don't exactly fill me with confidence that they can't hold their temper.
At the end of the day, ATD is here to stay and we can either get along with Pasoti, or not. God knows we have offered the hand of peace enough times, only to be rebuffed. |

| Maybe they will bring the charming Mike who we all saw photos of recently, and Dane "Only met Ian for the first time last week, and I have caused him loads of trouble but we're really good twatters together" Bunney. If you make it the end of February I might be able to pop along myself. Be nice to ask some questions myself. |

| They don't want to meet up to sort things out. They want to get at the admin on here and bring the forum down. They have been offered olive branches but are too village to accept. They are only interested in their own opinions/positions and that of Pasoti. They now feel threatened so will try to nobble someone to get a foothold on the inside of ATD. What other reason is there for a meet up ? Also a bit strange how they talk to you in particular too ?
Perhaps we should try a video conference first and if it is pointless, as I suspect because all they want is compliance, none of us will need minders, as we can cancel any further real life meetings.

I agree with Tringy, I can't see the point of a meeting. We know Webby doesn't like questions or critcism, and I wouldn't mind betting that any such meeting will be to insist that no-one on this site says anything that disagrees with him. Anyway, what is there to sort out? It's two fans forum websites, both supporting the same club, one that isn't afraid to say what it thinks, and the other which has become the club's unofficial mouthpiece. Hardly reasons for a in depth meeting. My advice Frank, is to stay well clear - and with both Webb and Newell graciously retiring from internet public life, is there any need? |

| Seems all a bit dramatised to me! Did you publisise your last meet up location? Yes. Was there any trouble? No. Now you are scared of violence should you put on here where you are going, even though previously everything went ok.
Just so it's clear - I do intend to come along to a freak meet at some point and it wouldn't be as a "pasoti-ite" or on anyone's behalf, I would be there as me, having a friendly chit chat with other Argyle fans, and I wouldn't want anyone to see it as anything other than that.
- Frank, your whole post seems irrelevant to my question.. A meeting between you Ian and Chris has nothing to do with the "Freak meet". As for Ian calling the Cherry Tree "Our Turf" We, as in Pasoti-ites, along with the GT's use that particular pub for pre match bacon sandwiches and a coach pick up point for away games. You are also likely to see many of us in there after a game etc.. So yeah it is a place we always go. Don't see why you can't also use the same drinking venue, it's large, friendly, has a big screen and cheapish drinks!
I'm fed up of bitchyness between people! In person, and on the internet. FFS grow up all of you! |

I totally understand why this should be needed to be kept under wraps and I have no desire to meet, exchange views or debate anything with Newell or anyone else unless I choose, but if I wish to have a pint in the Cherry Tree or anywhere else I'm bloody well sure I will!
Besides, I have quite a few mates that drink in there on a regular basis of an evening and I won't be seeking permission from anyone to socialistic with them!
Again, personally speaking, this forum (ATD) owes Newell sweet FA and has nothing to discuss with him, but thank him anyway!

I suggested we meet at the fans fest. Thats where I introduced myself to Ian and Chris before Christmas. He suggested we meet at the Cherry Tree and he described it as "your turf" (meaning ATD's turf).
This conversation happened after the last freak meet so I don't think he was even aware of the first one.
I think that passions have been running so high that something stupid could happen. When you have someone shouting and swearing at you down the phone (whilst safely 350 miles away), you have to ask whether they would do that in real life.
Having seen the dirty tricks that some people have done on here recently I would not be surprised to see a freak meet hijacked. Especially when some people have made such a song and dance about people hiding behind keyboards, being cowards and not being mates in REAL life. Why does Ian want to meet up? As Gob says, why would this benefit us? Its because they think that they will win a REAL life argument. How will they react if they lose the debate?
On each occasion I have spoken to Ian he has continually abused Gob, Tring, Ricks, Penz, Plympton Pilgrim and Cerbs. And the abuse he dished out about Peggy is shocking, despite me repeatedly telling him that she is a REAL life friend of mine. But he doesn't want her at any meeting because he cant stand to be in her presence. But he will abuse her on Twitter (thats ok apparently).
Like I said before, do not underestimate the hatred that some have for ATD.

Still, I don't know why people are bringing their little squabbles into this thread which has no relevance to the question I asked. Last time the place was advertised. Last time nothing happened. I see no reason why the sudden fear.. ATD and Ian have always had their differences. Way before last Saturdays Freak meet, nothing happened then, what's changed THIS week to explain the high level of fear for announcing a public drinking establishment?? (This has still not been explained to me) |

Indeed . They have been offered a political way out and are not interested. The potential for grief at a 'meet' is therefore huge and could easily escalate and I wish nobody any physical harm. |

Because nothng happened last time, doesn't mean it won't this.... And things change constantly between Pasoti and ATD, who says by the weekend we won't have another "barrage of bile" aimed at this site from Pasoti's finest.. I know he is your friends Zee Zee, but Newell is an accident waiting to happen! He is going to go 'mental' one day, it's just a matter of when? Why don't you ask him about his meeting with "Argus" a couple of years ago outside HP? There were plenty of witnesses. There was even cell phone footage. Newell couldn't control himself and the police stepped in and warned him! He allmost went that day! And then you also have the shameful incident of him screaming at some directors and at least one wife... ...and his abuse of the steward who wouldn't let him join in some celebration he felt he was entitled to participate in. Read what Frank says about his conduct on the phone! All the signs are there... Tick Tock..... |

The one that was talked about on the farm, before it was locked! Yes. "There is nothing more to say about this" I think was the reason given for stopping the discussion. |

Bluntly, if I wanted some bloke turning up at the pub to have a pop while I'm chatting to my mates, I'd have stayed married. |
