| Dartmoor brewery do some good local stuff. I normaly buy a polypin for christmas 36 pints for about £65.
Jail ale Dartmoor Ipa.
Or some of the ale from skinners in Truro is ok.
betty stogs Cornish Knocker
Or how about Cotleigh brewery or Exmoor ales.
My advice is when you go to a good local pub try whats on as a guest ale. The fort on mutley plain is a example of a good place for real ale.. |

| Great thing with ale is it depends what you like and depends where you are in the UK and whether the pub looks after its beer.
Bass served direct from the barrel in the Dolpin is always a wiiner Timmy Taylor Landlord Exmoor Brewery Gold Snozzle Brewery Best Bitter/Trelawny/Proper job Robinsons unicorn
The good thing is that as ale has become more popular a lot of breweries have been able to invest in lager brewing kit as well

| Missed this thread. Some nice suggestions on here but agree that it really depends where you are in the country/world. One of the great things about real ale is trying out local brews.
Personally often tend to gravitate toward the ESB style between 5 and 6% with some nice malty depth...perhaps something more golden for a session ale. Have been trying some of the more hoppy ones lately but draw the line at US-style grapefruit juice beer.
Anything by Dark Star is always worth a go but I'm not sure their tentacles spread out as far as the south west yet (they are Sussex-based). Of the local brews around Plymouth I always find Jail a good tipple.
Been a while since I sampled Bass off the barrel at The Dolphin but was always tradition to start a Saturday night out there for that very reason....much to the consternation of the lager drinkers! |

Agree with that Les, Peroni stella kroney carlsberg, Lager bhey through and through, you can keep that dirty water shite!!
Was on the draught san miguel last night bhey, nice but prefer the peroni. Real ale is for beards, trainspotters, lefties, commies, lezzies, twitchers and nerds Been all of the above at some point or other but not always all of them at the same time. San Miguel, Peroni...marginally better than some of the other pasteurised piss but pasteurised piss nevertheless. |
