They need help lol. I'm sooooo close to withdrawing all financial input into the club until either Brent shows some cash backed ambition in the squad or he fcuks off. The home defeat against Exeter could be my last visit for a good while.

It took you long enough Les. No future in financially supporting this owner. One has to has to live with oneself.

I've been trying to explain that to myself for the last 3 or 4 years raised eyebrow . Weaned it down to about 8/10 matches a season but it's still the best part of 3 ton a year when you add in replica kit and other bollocks for the young lad.

not back yet sunny

It was boys v men, the boys won because the wanted it and they battled for every ball. We were like headless sheep with sheep dogs biting at our heels. It  bye bye promotion, L2 next season. I cannot see us getting any points from the next two games.

Typical argyle blow chances in first Half then fall apart in the second, totally inconsistent,no plan be every team has worked us out, too reliant on the back pass, typical argyle bullshit

Twenty seven games in and have been to the Brentihad twice this season. Probably go to see the orient, think the scum will get one over on us, as they are on fire, unlike argyle.

I am back in TGWU Tower. Wish I did not witness that rubbish last night, best of luck if you are going to Cambridge this weekend. I cannot see DA turning it around as he and the team as come from a good break and still fu* king it up. Ran off the pitch by boys. No

We don't take chances when we get them
Tanner takes too many touches when there's passes available
We just lump it route one to nobody
We don't support the ex Torquay kid up front, even though he almost set up a few chances last night he needs to look before passing,

Every team has worked argyle out, at least try something new at the start and if that doesn't work go back to the old material,

Both Yeovil goals were weak 11 players in the box for the first and the two who set the goal up were unmarked.

We are in trouble unless this new lot gels pretty quick and Derek gets a plan b.

Well, after a long trip up through the rural Westcountry in the pouring rain, sitting in my mate’s car in the pouring rain to avoid going to the pub, we bundled into an open terrace to watch Argyle face Yeovil…in the pouring rain.

On the whole, a very inspiring and underwhelming performance. This essay might be a bit thinner on detail than you’re used to, not least due to the conditions. Firstly, the conditions made the game a grim contest where not a lot really happened. Secondly, what did happened, I had my view obscured for a rain soaked open terrace with a bit of mist in the air too.

It was interesting to see Gary Sawyer back in the side. I’ve vented enough about how I think it was the wrong decision to sell Purrington but obviously like everyone else, I wanted Sawyer to do well and gave him a chance. Other curious selections like Blissett and Tanner also stuck out so it would be especially interesting to see how we got on.

The first fifteen minutes were pretty poor to be honest. We lobbed a lot of long balls up to Blissett who for one, isn’t great at holding the ball up anyway and for two, was playing on a pitch not at all suited to holding up the ball. I said to my mate at the time that we could have done with moving the ball along the ground a bit more.

To our credit, that’s what we did. After a first 15-20 in which nothing stuck, we eased our way into the game and began to create a few chances. One of them was a goalline scramble which somehow didn’t quite find its way into the net. That and a few other half-chances saw us edging the game going into half-time.

There was just one small problem though- we had had the wind to our advantage and failed to go into the lead. With the wind second half, Yeovil got well on top. Adams brought on Slew and Jervis for Tanner and Donaldson. In truth, I think these were moves that should have been made at kick-off not as substitutions. Tanner and Donaldson are decent enough with the ball at their feet but neither of them are strong or scrappers. Slew and Jervis both are (at least, Slew is more so than the alternative). I get that Adams may have been playing the technical players rather than the scrappers for a reason, to ensure we played our usual game and got the ball on the ground. It’s true that that may be a possibility but with Slew and Jervis, you get the best of both worlds. They can play football but also scrap when scraps need to be had.

It wasn’t to do us much good, however. A nightmare spell ensued. Yeovil quickly went two goals up due to a man going completely unmarked at a corner and then Slew hashing a clearance directly to a Yeovil player from a free-kick. That’s our last 7 goals in a row conceded from set pieces, and we were relatively fine with them before Christmas. I don’t know what’s brought on this spate of being unable to defend dead ball situations but it needs to be sorted and ASAP.

My frustration at this was nothing compared to the comical situation of a few minutes later though. Bradley and Sokolik both completely went for the same ball with zero communication. The ball then bounced over both of them and put their forward in one vs one which McCormick thankfully saved. Yeovil then dominated the game after this point and in truth they looked more like getting a third than we did getting anything out of the game. We got a goal back through what can only be determined as a Krysiak howler but that was it. At no point were we knocking on the door.

On the whole, a very poor and uninspiring performance, bar a spell of 20 minutes or so before half-time that looked promising. That’s two performances in a row that haven’t been up to our best standard. Cheltenham we got away with it by scoring more goals than the opposition. Yeovil were a tougher test and they made us pay. Full-time came, the home side celebrated like they’d won the league and I left my sodden socks in Yeovil’s car park. At least I’d remembered a spare pair of clothes.

Not good enough selection from Adams. Not good enough mentality. Not good enough without Purrington. For the first time, I’m starting to doubt promotion. I know that seems like a knee jerk response, but full-backs are crucial to how we play. Sawyer did ok in the first half, getting a few good crosses in on the occasions he did go forward. He wasn’t dreadful second half but he still got skinned a couple of times in ways that I can barely remember happening to Purrington in months. And he certainly didn’t bomb forward, taking a man with him to create space for our attacks. Purrington had everything you’d want from a full-back in this league. Reliable defensively and stretched opposition defences too, going forward with style and panache.

Like we’ve been better without Miller, I fear we will be worse WITH Sawyer. Unadventurous full-backs just aren’t suited to a side who like to play a bit. We’re a lot more direct and physical team than we were last season but crikey, we aren’t a route one team either. We need modern full-backs and we’re a lot worse without one. That’s the first warning side regarding promotion.

The second is once again, the mentality seems more fragile when the season reaches a critical point. As in the last two seasons, everything is amazing in October and early November when there isn’t any pressure around winning. But as soon as we get to the business end, our players turn into rabbits in the headlights. I’m not an expert in sports psychology (though I do have a great interest in psychology) but it does at times seem like our players just don’t have a winning mentality. We win when it matters but are too scared to see it out when it really matters. We lost our heads when we went ahead at Cheltenham and we lost our heads when we went behind at Yeovil. I’m not saying we WON’T go up but we’ll need to show stouter heart to do so. Let’s hope Kennedy brings a bit of spark back to the team.

McCormick-6. Not really to blame for either goal but when we concede so many goals from set plays specifically, you have to question his command of area.

Threlkeld- 7 MOTM. Best of a bad lot. Stood his ground and overlapped well.
Sokolilk-4. In spite of his goal, I’m really struggling to see the point of him so far. Even at Cheltenham where he was safety first, all his clearances went right back to us and he gave away needless throw-ins. At Yeovil, he played like he had cement in his boots and his decision making at times over whether or not to commit was criminal. Improvement needed.
Bradley-6. Some horrific moments, like the one with Sokolik above. Good first half, poor second. Far from his best game. Didn’t play the conditions well enough and I usually like him a lot.
Sawyer-5. See a few paragraphs above.

Songo’o-6. Did some good stuff. Fell over a lot. The end.
Fox-5. Nowhere near his best. Went missing in the rainy conditions I think.

Tanner-3. Had an absolute howler of a game. A few people have said it’s more or less as bad a game as they’ve seen from him and I’m inclined to agree. Not only was he not suited to the scrappy conditions, literally everything he tried went wrong. He couldn’t complete a pass for toffee. In the second half, he got even worse and stopped moving off the ball. A game he’d like to forget.
Carey-5. Yet again, he’s the one getting most of the stick but I thought there were far worse culprits. Yes he was bad on and off the ball second half but so was everyone. Almost all of our chances in the first half somewhat tangentially involved Carey, even if it was only picking up the ball to have a quick turn and pass to someone in more space. I’m not saying he did well and I’m not saying he’s on good form. But the extent to which he’s playing badly is overstated by people used to him being amazing. He’s doing badly by his standards, not by everyone elses.
Donaldson-6. Even though I don’t think it was the right sort of game for him(see above), he actually did ok. Like Carey, during our good spell he was involved with most of what went right. He isn’t a natural scrapper but he did run and press well. I’m not usually a fan of his but he’s in the side for his energy and did alright on the face of it.

Blissett-4. I don’t want to say I told you so to the Garia-slaters, but I DID tell you we’d be worse without him. Garita may be cumbersome and inconsistent, but what he can do is hold a ball up and flick it on to a player. For all Blissett’s running and his supposed vision, nothing stuck and nothing really reached a fellow player.

Jervis-7. One of the few to do a job in the second half. Ran well and used the ball far better than most.
Slew-5. His general play was good but you can’t overlook him being to blame for two goals.
Sarcevic-5. Did the simple things, moved the ball about without giving it away but did not look at all match fit. That needs to change.
