| Hopes of Plymouth Argyle windfall after Norwich join race for former skipper Conor Hourihane
Norwich have reportedly joined the race to sign former Plymouth Argyle skipper Conor Hourihane - raising hopes that the Pilgrims could cash in on any move.
Hourihane left Home Park in 2014 to sign for Barnsley in a move reckoned to be around £200,000 plus future add-ons.
The Irishman has since grown in stature to be one of the top players in the Championship, and it was reported on Friday that Aston Villa were preparing a £1m bid for his services.
Sheffield Wednesday have also been linked with a move for Hourihane, though the Owls completed a move for Tykes striker Sam Winnall on Friday for an undisclosed fee.
Should Hourihane move in the January transfer window, Argyle could be in line for a slice of his transfer fee via a sell-on clause in his sale agreement to Barnsley. However, Argyle have not yet said what that could amount to.
Hourihane is also out of contract at the end of this season, and should he leave Barnsley in the summer Argyle would not be entitled to anything as he would move on a free transfer.
However, Norwich's interest raises the possibility that Barnsley may opt to cash-in now rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Hourihane helped Barnsley gain promotion from League One to the Championship through the play-offs, and also lifted the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with the Tykes last season.

Course he won't. Lord Jim thinks the squad is good enough, and he's always right. |
