New signing thread (Josh Simpson signs 06/07)

Like the look of these signings.

Shez sorted out the defence last season bringing in Hartley and McHugh, very much a feel this preseason that Dez is bringing quality into the midfield.

Will he bring in loanee on top?

I cant see Del Bhey changing the captain just yet but i agree with you fully.

Simpson would be better, a lot more vocal, so too Hartley. It'd be tricky reassigning the armband without it being a perceived slight to Nelson though.

Besides, Sheridan's point was that the armband was meaningless, vocal players without an armband don't stop being vocal. So despite Nelson not being demonstrably captain material for me it'seems hard to argue against that point.

Hartley will organise the back, just as he did last season, Sawyer was a 'talker' too if I recall rightly. Simpson will organise further up.

Then of course something we didn't have last season will come into play too, a manager constantly shouting and encouraging from the dug out!

I reckon we'll do just fine for 'leaders' whilst leaving 'nice guy Curtis' to do the ceremonial niceties.

you dont want a team full of leaders lead by a nice guy. You want a Captain leading without others doing his job for him which is what Nelson seems to be allowing under his reign.

As i say i ant see del bhey changing it but if he did then Hartley would get the nod for me.

Playing a back four, Hartley would not be there IMO he wounld be the one missing out

You're right, it's not ideal, I just don't think it's a big enough problem to merit a change. The leaders will lead anyway.

Nice issue to have though, a couple of years back we seemed to have a team of inanimate mutes... the only sounds being when Wotton and Walton started shouting AT people to cover up their own mistakes.

Would have felt a lot happier about all this if we were able to hold on to our better players.I guess when teams like Rochdale and Burton come knocking it is no longet possible to hold onto the player. JB please go.

Plymouth Argyle unlikely to make more permanent signings

Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams says there are unlikely to be any more permanent additions to his squad.

Adams, who took over as Argyle manager last month, has brought in five new players this summer, including three from clubs in his native Scotland.

"From a permanent point of view, it looks like we're finished," Adams told BBC Radio Devon.

"The only additions would be loan signings at this moment in time," added the former Ross County manager.

Is no one else not see whats going on here? 5 signings on 1 year deals squad of 20 and now its announced only loan signings from now on.

this is shezza's budget from last year but slashed.

Last season some fans were saying the squad was too big. I'm sure Grizzly knew the budget before he signed.
I would suggest that he was talking to players as soon as he knew he had an interview. He could have signed 8 out of contract ''snot and blood'' Lge 2 players from the bus loads out there but signed 5 who appear to be better than your average 'Joe soap''. Of course only time will tell.
One thing is dead certain and that is he won't be leaning against the dugout with his arms folded whether we are 3 down or 3 up.

“We’re working on things," said Derek. "I had a meeting with the chairman, just to go over the budget, so now we can go forward and try and get players in. We’re working on it. I’m not even a week into the job yet; obviously we have to add to the squad, and depending on the budget we have to work to the constraints of that. That’s what we’ll do, and we’ll be ready for August 8".

See the old "just stands by the dugout with arms folded" argument is being put forward again. What difference does that make? Can't remember Wenger ever running up and down waving his willy in the air during his nigh on two decades in charge. Irrelevant bullshit.

Not really. The players who left who were on a full time wage, have been replaced by others on a full time wage. How much they are on is open to speculation. One left Crawley turning down an offer from them, the others are from the SPL, so it doesn't look like we're offering peanuts.

I'm worried about the lack of depth in the midfield.

Yeah the midfield..still looks piss poor get a couple of injurys then we will be bang in trouble.

It is when Luton Town have signed 11 players (at the last count) and Pompey signing 9 or 10. Plus other L2 sides seem to have got one or two gems. Still, we are in with a chance once the big KO arrives.

Hopefully these loans are season long midfielders.
I mean does anyone know if we still have trialists come to the club anymore.

do you think he was on that much to begin with? If del bhey is saying no more perm signings after 5 1 year deal players signing andd a squad of 20 it doesnt need an accountant to work out he has peanuts to work with. Oh and if we also going have yet another makeshift midfield made up with loan signings its not looking good for brenties bragging about his investing in del bhey.

We cant get promoted with a squad of 20.
We need at least 25 maybe 23 players on the books.
We need 3 midfielders.
